MISS Namibia Tsakana Nkandih was two weeks ago caught while allegedly cheating in one of her final examinations at the University of Namibia (UNAM), where she is a final year student.
The embarrassing revelations come as Nkandih prepares to leave for the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, in the United States of America this weekend.
The model Wednesday confirmed that she was being investigated by UNAM for alleged cheating.
Nkandih, a Public Management Degree final year student at the University of Namibia told Confidente that she was being probed by the university on the basis of allegations that she was cheating during an examination on “Conflict and Dispute Resulutions.”
Although UNAM’s Assistant Registrar for Examinations Abraham Ockhuizen declined to divulge details regarding Miss Namibia’s alleged “cheating.” Confidente has it on good authority that she has been disqualified for the subject and has therefore to rewrite the subject next year.
Nkandih allegedly got into the examination hall with her cell phone when the rule prohibits her from doing so.
Nkandih allegedly told the examination invigilator who charged her with “exams cheating” that she had to carry her mobile phone because she was being sought after by many people at the time.
“There is still an investigation and I have not been found guilty. There is no proof that I was doing anything irregular,” she said in an interview.
Miss Namibia said she was seeking legal advice on why UNAM wanted her to re-write her examination.
“I am a public figure and I have a lot of people that need to talk to me. There is another reason for keeping my phone that I can’t share with you,” she said. After ending the interview, Nkandih, however, called Confidente back later to explain why she had to keep her mobile phone during the examinations. She said her mother is epileptic and she was the only daughter, and therefore she needed to keep her phone just in case if anything tragic happens to her.
“It’s personal but I had to ask my mother whether I can reveal that she was epileptic and was the reason I had to keep my phone with me.”
“If the school feel that they want to prosecute me for having kept my phone during an examination they can do so but they cannot prosecute me for copying.”
Nkandih said that she volunteered to offer medical reports of her mother’s condition to the investigators at UNAM.
She is expected to leave for Las Vegas on Sunday to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant on 19 December and she said that she was prepared to come face the investigation when she comes back.
